Windows SharePoint Services no longer ‘free’?

An article over on Technet suggests maybe the days of Windows SharePoint Services  currently being pre-installed as a ‘free’ component of Windows Server 2003  licensed users, may be coming to an end.
WSS as downloadable option for Windows Server 2008
